the cave, the UFO

at one point, we were crossing this cave by, i don't know what you would call it, rapelling? we crossed the long caverns by attaching ourselves to thick lines that crossed deep chasms. we got to a particularly treacherous room, and as i pulled my harness up to attach to the room's line, some impulse overtook me and i took a huge bite out of my harness, which was made of licorice. i instantly realized afterward that doing so left me stranded in the cave.

later, we were in some sort of town square, and i was about to step into the local bar when the power went out. for some reason it really shook me up. the town seemed to me like the kind where things like that didn't happen often- good infrastructure, or something. i asked, how often does the power go out in this city? and someone answered me, never. when the lights came back on shortly, i realized what had disturbed me so much- in addition to the lights, the sky had turned dark as well. not like the clouds rolled in, but it became night where it was previously day. when the lights came back on, the sky became light again as well. i knew something was coming.
over the hill came some sort of flying polygonal entity, red, not flying like anything i know of in reality  but sort of drifting, changing shapes. its motion seemed to suggest intelligence, and though it had no visual features to distinguish a front or a face, i felt like it was looking down on us. i grabbed eric and we tried to escape. we started to fly, floating out above the town, as it launched some sort of missile which floated noncommittally over the town  before deciding on a place to land, i saw the plume of smoke rise from the spot like i was looking at it on a map- its funny how you can see the world from multiple perspectives in a dream, simultaneously on the ground and in the sky.
we flew away but i knew the thing was looking for us. when i could feel it looking at us, i pulled eric to the ground and we laid very still, hoping maybe that if we didnt move, it wouldnt see us. i think it worked, and when the thing turned we escaped behind its back.
